Wiktor Szydarowski is Director of the ESPON EGTC based in Luxembourg and responsible for the planning and effective delivery of activities under the EU-financed ESPON Programme. The ESPON Programme connects public administration, researchers and practitioners from all EU member countries and the four partner states (Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Switzerland). It helps them understand the ever-changing territorial development challenges, trends and potentials for Europe, to develop adequate policy responses.
Wiktor has over 25 years’ experience in planning, managing and implementing international cooperation initiatives. Wiktor joined ESPON EGTC in September 2020 after several lead positions in the public administration and consultancy in Poland and Sweden. He is a certified EU expert in multimodal transport, European territorial cooperation, macroregional and sea-basin strategies, and relations between level of governments in the design and implementation of development policies.
Wiktor has a profound record in project management, being responsible for launching and successful implementation of 19 Interreg projects in the Baltic Sea area. He has drafted several strategic documents for the intergovernmental networks, including: EU macroregional, regional and local strategies, action plans, policy proposals and position papers, including Interreg programming documents. Wiktor has produced about 50 research publications on the EU transport and cohesion policies, transport corridor development, strategic development zones, polycentric development, diffusion of innovation, and accessibility issues. He holds a PhD degree in Geography and Regional Planning from the University of Gdansk.
